New Student Registration (First-year & Transfer)

Welcome to the University of Miami College of Arts & Sciences !

A team of academic advisors is ready to help guide you towards your academic and professional success.  Our goal is to provide you a solid foundation in understanding and navigating University and College requirements, increasing your knowledge of your chosen majors and minor(s), and connecting you to the many resources and the opportunities across the University.   With many options to choose from, you will choose classes based on your individual interests, goals, and passions.

ADVISING/REGISTRATION STEPS –
To begin your Arts & Sciences experience and course registration, please complete the following steps:

Step 1 – VIEW UMX MODULES

Check you Miami.edu email for access to the UMX modules.  These modules are located in Blackboard (the University’s online learning platform).  Viewing these modules is critical to navigating the registration process using ‘CaneLink.

Step 2 – SCHEDULE YOUR MANDATORY SUMMER ACADEMIC ADVISING APPOINTMENT

Check your University of Miami email at www.mail.miami.edu for a message entitled “Academic Advising – Arts & Sciences”.  Arriving in early May, this email invitation will invite you to meet your academic advisor along with a unique link to schedule your required advising appointment.  Depending on your major, your advising may be in a group setting.

During your first year you should expect to meet with your academic and faculty advisors at least 4 times: with your academic advisor once over the summer and once during each fall and spring semesters; and once with your faculty advisor during orientation.

Academic Bulletin The Bulletin from the year you entered UM explains all of the University and departmental requirements for all degrees.

Academic Calendars As you begin to attend classes, you may want to adjust your schedule. Be mindful of deadlines listed on the 
ASPIRE  visit page for jobs and internship opportunities or the career page in your department.

Cane Central the One stop shop for all ’Cane needs.  

Cane Link The tool you will use to register and to view a list of courses and their descriptions.

Cane Success Center  dedicated to providing you the help and support you need to reach your goal of graduation

Learning Commons offers select in-person and online support for your academic and scholarly projects

Math Lab  Located in the Learning Commons, on the first floor of the Richter Library, the Math Lab provides tutoring to any student enrolled in an undergraduate math
