New Student Registration (First-year & Transfer)

Welcome to the College of Arts & Sciences at The University of Miami!

You are joining the University of Miami’s largest college, a community of scholars and students committed to the values of liberal arts education and academic excellence. We believe our students are most successful when they take ownership of their futures and education.

Advisors can provide information about University requirements and opportunities; however, the advising process promotes and fosters autonomy. You will choose classes based on your individual interests, goals, and passions.

ADVISING/REGISTRATION STEPS –
To begin your Arts & Sciences experience and course registration, please complete the following steps:

Step 1 – VIEW REGISTRATION VIDEO MODULES

Step 2 – SCHEDULE YOUR MANDATORY ACADEMIC ADVISING APPOINTMENT
Check your University of Miami at www.mail.miami.edu for a message entitled “Academic Advising – Arts & Sciences”. This message will provide your unique link for making your required advising appointment. All students with under 45 UM credit hours must meet with an advisor to be able to enroll in courses. During the appointment, you and your advisor will discuss your academic and career goals, major selection, specific and general degree requirements, course selection, AP/IB/CLEP scores, transfer coursework, necessary campus referrals, as well as any other topics you may wish to discuss. Please have AP/IB/CLEP scores and transcripts from other colleges available for your advising appointment if they apply to you. Official transcripts from previous institutions must be sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at least two weeks prior to your appointment for the courses to be reviewed and visible to your advisor.

We will discuss goals, major selection, degree requirements, course selection, AP/IB/CLEP scores, campus referrals, and other topics.

Please have the following available for your advising appointment if they apply to you:

  • AP/IB/CLEP scores
  • A copy of your most recent transcript(s) from any other colleges you’ve completed courses at.
  • Send all official transcripts to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions

Step 3 – REGISTER
Register for courses by referring to the instructions provided in the registration modules as well as your advising appointment. Remember that in order to be considered full-time, you must enroll in 12-17 credits your first semester at the University of Miami.
