Monitor your Miami.edu email to review and read important messages.

ADVISING/REGISTRATION STEPS –
To begin your Arts & Sciences experience and course registration, please complete the following steps:

Step 1 – COMPLETE UMX MODULES

Once you have set up your “Cane email, check your Miami.edu email for access to the UMX modules.  These modules are located in Blackboard (the University’s online learning platform).  Viewing these modules is critical to navigating the registration process using ‘CaneLink.

Step 2 - VIEW OUR A&S DEGREE RQUIREMENTS VIDEO

As you will note from the UMX module and the above video, your time to degree depends upon your completion of several requirements. To ensure the best timeline it is important that you take your placement into courses very seriously. As such, you will want to ensure you send all college transcripts (including dual enrollment courses) and AP/IB/AICE/CLEP scores to UM Admissions so that you receive course credit for those courses you have already completed. In addition, you will want to review the placement links below and prepare for a placement exam if applicable. Once you are notified all credits are posted, you will need to review your CaneLink to determine which courses you received automatic equivalent credit for, and which need to be evaluated to be given course credit. Those that need to be evaluated will have a 100T listed in CaneLink. To have a course evaluated you must obtain all course details, including syllabus, and submit to the UM evaluation system, MATES. Once all courses have been evaluated, an advisor can appropriately advise you and assist you in avoiding registration for repeated courses.

Step 3 – SCHEDULE AND MEET YOUR ADVISOR DURING YOUR MANDATORY ACADEMIC ADVISING APPOINTMENT

Once you have completed the UMX Modules as well as transferred and evaluated all past courses, please check your UM email for instructions inviting you to meet with an advisor. If you are a new first-year, you will be invited to meet with a transitional advisor. If you are a transfer student, you will be invited to meet with an academic advisor.
